The Wollongong Wolves Football club has today announced a major partnership with UOW College at the University of Wollongong.
This agreement will see major educational initiatives and opportunities rolled out across the Illawarra and South Coast regions through the Wollongong Wolves junior and representative teams and pathways for many others across the region developed for those participating in the Wolves Community Engagement Programs..
Wolves Chairman Tory Lavalle observed “Being able to announce this exciting new partnership with the UOW College is a major achievement for the Wolves. We are now in a position where we can fast track significant education and pathway opportunities for our players and also to many others across our communities. Education is crucial and the more people, particularly our kids, we can push into tertiary and further education the better for everyone concerned.”
Recent high profile signing, former Japanese international and JLeague player, Yuzo Tashiro, who has agreed play for the Wolves in the 2017 season is the first player to be introduced into the UOW College pathway. Yuzo is now an official UOW College ambassador and has commenced full time study at the facility. In addition to his studies, Yuzo will represent UOW College locally, nationally and internationally and be the conduit for many of those exposed to the Wollongong Wolves Community Engagement Programs.
UOW College, General Manager, Julie Renwick, commented “Reaching this partnership with the Wollongong Wolves is great for us. We have many alternatives and pathways through our courses and being able to extend our reach through sport and other sectors of our community simply provides more people with more chances to further their education and generates far greater options for the future.”
This initial agreement between the Wollongong Wolves and The UOW College will now see additional discussion possible between both organisations to further develop and extend the partnership.
Yuzo Tashiro will play a prominent role in launching this partnership and will be making appearances and presentations to UOW College students and Wollongong Wolves players and supporters. He will be using his extensive presence overseas, particularly in Japan for the benefit of UOW College, the Wollongong Wolves and the Illawarra and South Coast regions in general.
“Our club has a very strong commitment to education - education for our seniors: - education for our juniors: = and exposure to educational opportunities for as many people across our communities as possible. Having this partnership now with UOW College, one of the best education providers in Australia, really enhances the positive contributions we can make. Whether it’s on the field or off the field this is going to deliver great benefits, in the short term and particularly in the long term.” concluded Wolves Chairman, Tory Lavalle.
