Get the girls together to celebrate International Women’s Day with a luncheon
International Women’s Day Illawarra Luncheon will be held on Friday 21st May 2021. While this date does not align with the global International Women’s Day date, the decision was made to delay this year’s event to assure the health and safety of the 500+ attendees while adhering to the gradual ease of COVID-19 restrictions.

DEB WALLACE
The Police Force can be a tough place for a woman, but Detective Superintendent Deborah Wallace, better known as ‘the gangbuster’, rose to the top with grace, humour and an iconic sense of style. In an edible 36-year career with NSW Police, Wallace took on murderers and drug suppliers, and dismantled the state’s most nefarious gangs.
Her official biography by veteran crime writer Mark Morri is out now with never before told stories. Deb will be interviewed on stage and share her jaw dropping true story of a police trailblazer and a woman of force. She will also have her book on sale on the day, signed for you.
EFFIE
Effie, or as her parents christened her, Efthimia Francesca Stephanidis, returns to the IWD Illawarra event in all her Greek goddess megastar hilarity. This Working-Class Cultural Icon and Logie Award-winning legend has been in our hearts and homes for over three decades. Bringing her own brand of comedy to us, Effie will remind us how important it is to laugh and plan for life in a post COVID world in the only way she can.

We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world. From challenge comes change, so in 2021, #ChooseToChallenge.
