Celebrating 20 Years of Entertainment in Illawarra

Next month, the WIN Entertainment Centre will celebrate its 20th anniversary – a major milestone for the Illawarra region.
“We’ve put on more than 1,400 events and hosted more than 3 million people across two decades… and to celebrate the venue we’ve planned a special birthday programme with 20 events over 20 weeks,” says WIN Entertainment Centre Venue Manager Marc Swan.
Over 1,500 people attended the opening on 3 September 1998, an event marked by a sell-out concert by Bob Dylan.
“Not only did Bob Dylan open our venue, but he’s back for the third time in Wollongong on August 20 as part of our birthday celebrations,” says Mr Swan.
Since the late nineties, WIN Entertainment Centre has featured some of the biggest acts in the world from Ed Sheeran to Cirque du Soleil, but local events like the Illawarra Hawks games, Southern Stars and the Illawarra Business Chamber (IBC) Awards are some of the most memorable.
“The 2012 Illawarra Business Awards function was a record-breaker, with 1,030 seated for dinner… and Southern Stars is always one of our favourite events of the year, despite the obvious challenges of squeezing 3,000 performers, thousands of costumes and 4,000 guests into the venue,” says Venue Manager Marc Swan.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward says that WIN Entertainment Centre holds a special place in the hearts of people in our community.
“Children who grew up watching performers such as the Wiggles, are now taking their children to shows at the venue. I encourage everyone to attend events to mark this special anniversary,” says Mr Ward.
WIN Entertainment Centre are celebrating a special event with a special programme and a super-special competition.
“To thank our incredible audiences,” says Mr Swan, “We’ve planned 20 special events over 20 weeks and an exciting social media Emerald Ticket competition that gives the winner two free seats to every concert and sporting event throughout 2019.”
