For more than a decade Rosie Batty AO has been one of Australia’s greatest symbols of hope, becoming a leading voice against domestic violence and a catalyst for systemic change.

The 2015 Australian of the Year is known for her courage and determination, and respected for her tireless work for victim survivors.

When her 11-year-old son Luke tragically lost his life at the hands of his father, Rosie Batty was catapulted into the media spotlight. But from the start, she made sure her story was never just about her own tragedy.

Since then she has given voice to thousands of domestic violence victims – and her impact has been extraordinary.

She was appointed the inaugural Chair of Victoria’s Victim Survivor’s Advisory Council, following the country’s first Royal Commission into Family Violence.

She received the Pride of Australia National Courage Medal, the prestigious Order of Australia, and was named by Fortune Magazine as one of the world’s 50 greatest leaders.

But Rosie's legacy is her ability to inspire others. By sharing her own journey of healing and resilience, she has empowered countless others to find hope in the face of adversity.

It is fitting that as International Women’s Day Illawarra celebrates 20 years of fundraising, Rosie shares her story while advocating for a safer, more compassionate future.

International Women’s Day always celebrates a global theme and in 2025 it is March Forward For all Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment. Central to this vision is empowering the next generation—particularly young women and adolescent girls—as catalysts for lasting change.

This charity fundraiser is a sought-after event and helps raise awareness of the need for gender parity around the world. Tickets to the three-course luncheon (incl drinks package) sell fast so don’t miss out!
